Celine and Dume Paolini at ‘ Native Vision’ Sculpture in Beachport
by Chezza Chambers
A sculpture track is being planned to Link Beachport & La Ferte St. Aubin. The facotstemming from the sculpture ‘Miroir’ in La Ferte & ‘Native Vision’ in Beachport. This is a great story beginning when Dume & Celine Paolini from La Ferte St. Aubin in France met Monica Redden from Beachport in Coral Bay WA, while on holidays. Monica sold Beachport so well that Dume & Celine came to visit.
In 2010 Dume was invited back to Beachport, as an Artist in Residence, and with Celine they spent 2 1/2 months working on a Sculpture for the Seafari Festival by the Sea. Celine was busy doing the consultation work with the Beachport District Development Association (BDDA) and local residents, while Dume was creating in sheds, made available to him by the locals.
Celine told WattleRangeNow that the consultation process involved locals giving them a lot of words, that they felt depicted the atmosphere of Beachport, and from there they were able to create the Sculpture ‘Native Vision.’
In 2011 Dume & Celine returned to Beachport and ‘Native Vision’ was set up at the foreshore entry to Beachport.
THE SCULPTURE TRACK
In 2012 the Mayor of La Ferte St.Aubin, Philippe Froment, mentioned that he would like the town to have a Sculpture Track and from there, this idea developed.
Dume & Celine are now back in Beachport developing Sculpture Tracks to connect the two towns, in conjunction with local artists, residents & school children. They have begun working on approximately five projects to be finished in Beachport, and have invited locals to go to France to contribute to the Sculpture for La Ferte. Most of the sculpture will link the two towns, in some way.
Local artists Deon Howell from Millicent, Christy Wallace from Mt Gambier, Pam Hales, Monica Redden & Paula Tsernjavski from Beachport and their families will travel to France from May through to September 2013, to work together. Christy will add a musical theme, as well and will talk & work with residents ,and school children from La Ferte, and include Jazz, Rock & Country musicians.
Paula, Principle of the Beachport Primary School, will work closely with students from schools in La Ferta St.Aubin.
In the meantime work will be continuing in Beachport by the locals, working together to progress with this Sculpture Track, ’ turning each others lights on’ and motivating each other.
